Record warm November
Bjørnøya and Sveagruva reached a new record for November with temperatures far above the normal.

In Bjørnøya, the average temperature measured in November was 1.7 °C, i.e. 5.4 above the normal, reports the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. Measurements started in 1920 and the last record for November temperatures was only 1.2 °C above normal in 1931.

In Sveagruva, temperatures even exceeded the normal by 8.8 °C with an average of -2.7 °C. Here the last warmth record dates back to 1993 with -2.9 °C.

In Longyearbyen, the warmest November month was in 1931 (-1.6 °C) and this years measurement is the second warmest measured since 1911 (-1.9 °C, i.e. 8.4 °C above normal). Temperatures in Ny-Ålesund and Hornsund were -3.3 °C (6.7 °C above normal) and -0.8 °C (7.5 °C above normal), respectively.
