| Svalbards research community is
characterised by its high international diversity. Beside
several Norwegian research stations, many international
research institutes have established permanent field
stations in Svalbard. In addition, researchers from all over
the world come to Svalbard to conduct research during the
field seasons. The research stations are situated in four
main research bases, Ny-Ålesund, Longyearbyen, Barentsburg,
and Hornsund. Kaffiøyra is a polish field station that is
seasonally opened during spring and summer.
